Radio Mics and Digital TV

This could have considerable effects for Music Theatre Companies

Reprinted with permission of WUNZ

Hi fellow WUNZ (Wireless Users NZ) member,

You are receiving this email as you have requested to be kept up to date with the issues relating to Digital TV and Radio mics.

If you do not wish to receive further emails please reply using the word "remove" in the subject line.

If you wish to add others to the email database, please also send me a return email with their details.

So onto the update…...

1. First, the committee set up after the meeting at Drake Street have decided on the name WUNZ (Wireless Users NZ)
2. The committee formed at the Drake Street meeting has had two meetings to date and have made some positive moves forward as below.
3. We have secured the www.wunz.co.nz website with the view of creating an information platform to enable us to make useful information and further updates available on-line.
4. We have set up an email database and would like to add to this over time to include as many people affected by this issue as possible.
5. Many suppliers/importers of Radio Mics have, or soon will, supply commercial information to establish at least part of the commercial impact the RSM decision not to consult with us, is having. We plan to expand this by including the impact further downstream such as the Hire, Performance, Broadcasting, Conference, Touring and Film markets. Naturally, the total dollar value of affected markets will be huge and we want to impress this on the decision makers.
6. After much discussion about the best way forward, we have decided on a multiple pronged plan which will initially include, Dave Fuller and Marcel Reinen presenting a "wish list" to Ian Hutchings in a face to face meeting. Set for early July and based on initial discussions we feel these will be favourably received. The wish list has the following items

* To get the GUSL amended to allow up to 500mW max power.
* To get the useable band expanded to include 518 - 582 MHz and 614 - 646MHz
* To get N+1 considered when planning TV transmission sites.
* To discuss what processes are used for planning etc so we can plan the right type of input to the MED.
* To discuss the 2010 GUSL renewal - a guarantee?
* To be assured of a "seat at the table" of any ASO/Digital Dividend discussions - probably the most important item on the list even though the Analogue Switch Off (ASO) is probably not due to happen till 2012/2015.

Further to this, we will start gathering more information on the effects DTV is having on our market, particularly when they finally switch off the Analogue Stations and head into the "Digital Dividend" which will present the distinct possibility that the Govt will decide to sell off the spectrum that will suddenly become available, hence the need to get a "seat at the table" of the planning committee of the RSM/MED. They will be starting this process soon so timing will be important in terms of swinging support in place.

Finally, even though we are all doing this voluntarily, any and all donations to help with some of the costs would be gratefully received and donations can be made as below. Dave Madigan is in charge of this on behalf of the committee.
