PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMME 2011
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Silo Theatre, in association with Auckland Theatre Company and The NBR New Zealand Opera, is very
proud to announce the launch of a pilot programme aimed specifically at fostering apprenticeships in
the performing arts industry.
Opportunities will be provided for a group of paid apprentices to engage with professional
organisations over an extended period. For the 2011 Pilot Programme, we are seeking interest from
emerging practitioners in the areas of Set, Lighting and Costume Design, LX and Audio Operation,
Stage Management and Tour Management.
Each programme will be tailored to the needs of the individuals involved, as well as fitting in with the
timeframes and requirements of the partner organisations.
Successful applicants will have a proven interest in and commitment to the industry, an ability to
commit to the programme for its duration, enthusiasm and an open mind.
This programme is designed to deliver the following opportunities and outcomes:
- To provide experience for emerging performing arts practitioners in order for them to gain
experience in arts employment.
- To provide training and guidance to the emerging artist from experienced professionals
working in the industry.
- To provide a variety of work experiences on a full time basis for the project period, to
encourage flexibility, networking opportunities and a range of host environments and
settings.
- To provide ongoing mentoring and support for the participants.
- To increase the capacity of the performing arts sector in Auckland.
- To encourage arts organizations to work together to take responsibility for growth of the
sector and support for emerging artists.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the ASB Community Trust for enabling the creation of this Pilot.
By ensuring the future health of our practitioner bases we hope to, in turn, assist in the further generation of a well-resourced, sustainable performing arts industry that is viable, vibrant, and supported by its professionals, audiences and investors alike.
