AGM 24 June 2012 - PRESIDENTS ADRESS

Thanks for coming today.

Firstly, last year we held a successful Conference 2011 which (in spite of the loss recorded and lower than expected attendance) reinforces the need for such an event and that we should continue to plan for a 2013 conference.

Membership as always is a concern and all of us should push where possible to encourage people to join. We greatly appreciate the ongoing support of our corporate & company members and their generous support of our student memberships.

The Executive has embarked on some new initiatives, in particular formulating a Strategic Plan. This project is on going with further details from Phil later in the meeting.

We have been making contact with our colleagues at PLAZA & ENTECH with a view to an ongoing relationship. How this might work and at what level, is still in discussion. I feel these types of relationships can only enhance our international reputation and assist with the advancement of our training and certification programmes.

The Executive embarked on investigating an insurance package for members particularly with reference to personal indemnity and Public Liability insurance. This insurance package was proposed as a wider entertainment industry group to take advantage of the larger number of people and businesses in the entertainment industry. After lengthy discussion with AON we have made progress, and to date a trial package will be introduced to MTNZ in the first instance and rolled out to other interested groups after a 12-month evaluation period. We will advise further when more details are available.

Continued activity on Training & Certification. In particular work on ECTP Certification by Rob Peters and Graeme Philip who will brief us further shortly.

After several round about conversations with Equity, and people of other agencies and unions we found ourselves on the Dept of Labour email list. This situation came to be quite helpful when the new Immigration regulations came into force as at the end of April this year. The upshot is that ETNZ has now been included in the DoL, Immigration Website as a contact organisation for Immigration approvals. We will see where this leads us in the coming months.

During the year it became apparent that in spite of my advices I was not able to bring the proposed rigging agreement for Wgtn venues to any conclusion. I have enlisted Andrew Gibson to take over this project and form a subcommittee to move this on to completion. I am sure Gibbo will make it happen.

Thanks to outgoing committee for their understanding and for their valuable efforts this year. Also for members support & who continue to approach us with ideas and a chat when one of the executive are in their gaff.

Thanks also to Kathryn who continues to steer us all in the right direction and keeping us all in order.

Finally a reminder, our Website, Facebook page, and Newsletters continue to be a regular source of information flow. In particular the Facebook page, where the most up to date info can be found. Please use these resources regularly and stay in touch.

Cheers & thanks for your support this year.
