Conference 2009 New Venue Session notes

Phil Conroy (Shand Shelton Ltd) and Fraser Falconer (Chairman of the renovation committee and client) presented the upgrade to the St James Theatre, Gore. High degree of community involvement and buy-in, client very involved, hands on, in design and build process. Very close supervision and control by the Theatre Consultant acting as project managers. Detailed discussions on the design and build, budgets, fundraising issues were discussed.
John McKay (Theatre Advisory Services) and Mark DeLisle (De Lisle Architects) presented the new performing arts venues at Southwell School. This presentation discussed in detail the design process, highlighting the relationship between the architect and theatre consultant emphasising the need for a close, open relationship to ensure that the building meets the needs for its intended purpose and aesthetic and architectural requirements.
Interestingly, both parties rated these projects as amongst the best and most enjoyable they were involved with, primarily due to the inclusive process between the people involved, resulting in highly positive outcomes .
